Who better to remind us that this mineral product is "the ultimate foot soak," easing achy muscles, smoothing the rough patches, and absorbing odors? But wait, there's more...

Here are some additional recommendations:

[*]Add one or two cups of epsom salts to warm bath water for a soothing and stress-reducing soak.

[*]Massage a handful of epsom salts over wet skin to cleanse, exfoliate, and soften the rough spots.

[*]Use a warm salt-soaked compress to reduce swelling from scrapes, use a cold compress to take the sting out of insect bites.

[*]Feed epsom salts to your plants, vegetables, and lawn for greener grass and big, healthy vegetables.

We learned that epsom salts are named for the mineral rich waters of Epsom, England, where they were known at least as far back as Shakespeare's day. We also found a recipe for epsom bath crystals.

Then we moved on to the epsom salt web page matches, where we found the official site of the village of Epsom, and a photo of the marvelous old well, whose waters, rich in magnesium sulfate (MgSO4·7H2O), made it 17th century England's first spa town. In those early days, folks came to drink the waters as a purgative, while these days we prefer to soak the aches, pains, and toxins out in a bath, although epsom is still used as an ingredient in stomach medications. A note of caution: Do not take an epsom salt bath if you have high blood pressure or a heart or kidney condition. And remember, the information above is intended for general reference purposes only. It is not a substitute for professional medical advice or a medical exam. Always seek the advice of your physician or other qualified health professional before starting any new treatment. </SMALL>
