Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could reccomend a good company for going blonde at home. I naturally have dark blonde hair, quite ash but still has a tendency to turn red. I have tried Garnier Nutrisse in a really light ash blonde shade and it comes out strawberry. Thankfully my hair is really resilient and my skin tone is flexible with a ton of different colors. I just really want to go blonde again (I went though a brunette phase) and I want to do it myself. If anyone has had similar experiences and come up with good results I am all ears. I can't wait to hear from you all

I never liked drugstore brands, the best way that's just as inexpensive is to find a Sally's beauty supply. First you gotta figure out how many shades lighter you want to go so you can find the right level color to get. And since you tend to go red, once you find which level you want, find a violet or a blue/violet shade within that level. That will keep it from turning red or brassy. If you have problems, Sally's will usually have someone there that knows a little about color.

All you have to get is the color, a developer(probably 30 volume-cream is easier than liquid)and an applicator bottle and gloves. The total cost should be about the same as getting a box of Clairol or L'oreal from the drugstore.

Hope this helps. I'm not a licensed hair specialist, but I've colored and cut a lot of hair at home(mine and other people as well).

I love how blonde Reija's hair came out after using the L'Oreal Preference Mega Blonds - L'Oreal has nice products for blonde hair.

Check out her results HERE - I think it looked really nice

Mega blonde is ok, but for people who tend to turn more red or orange, the lighter you go, the more brassy it comes out. That's why you gotta find something with a blue or violet base to it and the drugstore brands just don't cut it for the most part.

Ooooh, forgot to ask Irig-do you already have color in your hair? That makes a difference too.

Actually a blue base would be good for people who have more orange... if they are red, a green base is usually a better result. Plus you have to let is process past the orange/brass stage w/ brunettes, plus use a higher vol. peroxide.

Hey, Janelle, I know blue is supposed to be for orange and all that, but Irigpuekam said her hair is dark blonde. And I've found that alot of things go wrong with green based colors, so usually, blue/violet or even just violet based colors are great for people with lighter hair. With darker hair blue based or blue/violet usually come out better.

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to say thanks for all of the tips. I gave in and went and had highlights done. I found someone who does a really good job who works from home and charges less. I am going to keep everything in mind though when I go to do my roots. You guys all rock
