hi you guys. these are some pics of me (hope they work...), and well... i dunno! i want to look different. not dramatically different, but something with makeup (or maybe even hairstyles too, even though i know i'm posting under the wrong section for that
icon_redface.gif
) that will make me look prettier but doesn't take loads of time/ money. if you can't tell from the pics (i know they're not the best
icon_rolleyes.gif
) i have dark brown wavy/curly (naturally..) hair with reddish gold highlights thats a little past shoulder length and layered, big dark brown eyes, heavy eyebrows (i dunno if thin would really look good on me...), and braces on my bottom teeth (hopefully coming off in about 3 or so months!).

everyone here seems to be really in the know about what works well and everything, so i decided i'd give this a try. thanks in advance!!!

You are pretty without any makeup. The eyebrows are fine in my opinion. They say that thicker eye brows are in now anyway. If you want to do something different I would just go for the basics and concentrate on your eye makeup and some lipgloss. MAC has a good color selection and the products are less expensive than a lot of brands. You might see if there is a MAC store close to your house and have them recommend eye shadow colors based on your eye color. If you want a more detailed look you might also want to use some blush or a bronzer to highlight your cheeks. Also maybe go for some tinted moisturizer to even out the skin tone. Sonia Kashuk has a good one. Sonia Kashuk makeup is good and less expensive. You can find it from Target.

First off let me start by saying,You're naturally pretty without makeup. Not everyone can say that..I know I need to spackle it on just so I don't traumatize others. All you wanna do is enhance what you've already got..So,here's my 2 cents... I can think of 2 non makeup things you can do to change your look..I would start first with your eyebrows..Getting them professionally shaped maybe slightly thinned(Not alot!) adding more of an arch would really change your look..Also,maybe taking a few inches off the length of your hair..maybe making it just at shoulder length&adding some more layers..As far as makeup goes..you so don't need it but you can do the following and it won't take any time at all: Bronzer Mascara Line your upper lashes(as close to lashes as possible) tinted gloss(ie MAC lipglass)

Being female is great because we can reinvent ourselves when we want, to show others sides of our personality....so I am going to give you some suggestions that will give you a different look without breaking your wallet. Check with your parents FIRST. You have great eyebrows, but you can change them a bit by lightening them up. Get some Jolen facial hair bleach (follow the mixing directions),mix it, and put it on your eyebrows. After 1 minute has passed goes by, it is now time to check and see if it is the shade that you want. Wipe it off (ONE EYEBROW....leave the other one alone...you are just checking it) with your finger to see if it is 1 or 2 shades lighter. If it is not ready yet, just put it back on your brow....you don't have to put new stuff on. When you have acheived the shade that you want, wipe both brows off with a tissue and then wash your face to get all residue off. now you have new brows. If your parent, or Mom can't help you then you can also go to a pro to get it done, but it is easier to do your brows then it is to do a at home haircoloring kit. Another thing you can try is straight hair....I LOVE the waves in your hair, but this will give you a new look. Get some Murray's hair pomade....do NOT get the LIGHT pomade because it will make your hair look greasy. Put a dime size in your hands, then rub them together. Take a section of hair that you want to flat iron and rub the pomade in your hair....from root to end. If you feel like you don't have enough on your hands....DON"T get more...a little bit will go a long way. Keep rubbing it on your hair until you don't feel it on your hands any more (make sure you get your ends really good). Now use a CERAMIC flat iron (Hot Tools ceramic flat iron is one of the best because it is small and it heats up the hair from the inside out, so you use less heat on the hair and it gets it really straight). Move the flat iron slowly down your hair, don't rush. The pomade will help make your hair straighter, and the wax in it will seal the hair, which will help keep moisture from reverting your curl back to your hair so fast so it stays straighter longer. After your hair is straight, some cool looks to do is to put 2 or 3 different colored thin hairbands on your hair...make sure you space them out so it doesn't look like one thick head band. I would suggest a yellow, orange and green one. It will make your headbands stand out and make your hair color look good too. Now for makeup! Another thing you can do is try shades that you haven't tried before. Since you are in the mood for something new this is the best time to try shades that you normally don't where. Look in your makeup drawer and see what you normally where. Is it brown, is it blue? Time for a change. Go to the department store's testers (bring a pick of WHITE paper...with no lines) and ask your friend to pick out a shade that they would like you to try and tell her NOT to pick a shade that you normally wear. Rub the same colors that you are putting on your face onto the paper, and lable it "lipstick" "blush"...and so on. Don't say no.....wear it for the rest of the day and see if it grows on you, or if you get a lot of compliments. If so, then go back to the store and buy it or go to the drug store and match makeup to the piece of paper that you put the makeup on. Pink is one of the hot shades right now, and there is a shade of pink for all skin tones. That is a great color to start with. Since you are young this is the best time to have fun with your look....just remember...you look great! makeup is there just to have fun and enhance the GREAT YOU that is already there! Work it girl!!!! Candace Corey Makeup & Hair Artist www.candacecorey.com

I pretty much agree with most of the things that have been said above with the exception of lightening your eyebrows. SOft highlights would be very pretty on your hair, but I'd get them done professionally.

Since you want a new look, I think the most flattering things that you could do would be in the name of softening your look. To do this, I would side-part the hair and add soft, long bangs and soft long layers toward the bottom of your hair to add style and contrast/body.

I would add a subtle (NOT BIG) arch to my eyebrows by LIGHTLy tweezing underneath them... or I would have someone do it. Then I would color my big, beautiful eyes with pearly eyeshadows to accentuate their dark color and make them extra striking with pearl colored eyeliner just toward the inner tips of my eyes (not on the rim). I would smudge eyeshadow (less harsh than eyeliner) under my eyes since they are one of your best features .

I would go to the Revlon counter and get skinlights cream to add a dewy look to my young and pretty face and to give me an extra healthy glow. Then I'd finish the look with some soft lip gloss in a pink/raspberry color!

My different look would be softer, more feminine, and a tiny bit older looking. Of course I'd be happy that I am already quite beautiful ("I" being YOU!) LOL!!

I think the shape of your eyebrows are fine. You have a smooth arch to them. If you find that they are kind of wild and curly, comb them down and lightly trim on the ends. This will make them lay down better. And as I said in my other post about lightening your brow, that will bring more attention to your eyes instead of your brows because your eyelashes will be the darkest. I'll try to post some images of a model that I lightened her eyebrows. Keep in mind that it is not to make your brows blond, but a little lighter to give them a softer look and bring in some of the warmth to your brows that you hair already has. You can easily have a professional do it for you. Candace Corey Makeup & Hair www.candacecorey.com/makeupworkshop

Hi Candace, Yes please post those eyebrow pics. Do you have b4 and after so we can see the difference? I am curious. I hope you did not take offense that I did not like the eyebrow lightening idea. I am really interested in seeing the pics. Please post. Thanks, Califoryan

Girlfriend - for fun try some alternating chestnut, mahogany & lightest copper blonde high & lowlights. Go to Sally's Beauty supply, get some liquid protein filler & spray it on your hair & let it dry so your hair will receive color evenly & it'll last longer. Then find some old/new toothbrushes, 2 to 3 of those color mix plastic bottles & gloves, developer (the black cap is for depositing color lor lowlights or allover color, the yellow cap is for blond - lifting color - sort of like 20% peroxide to deposit & 30% peroxide to lift). Don't wash your hair for a day or two, or put a lot of styling stuff in it. Just let it be. Put a little of the developer aroung your entire hairline & let it sit for about 3 to 5 minutes so it takes the color better (we sweat & wash it off fastest in front), then section off lines and alternate the colors, from roots to ends, the lightest color(s) in front & on top where the sun would hit & work it front to front sides to rear, & don't forget to get the back of your neck if you wear your hair up so there's consistency & variety in a natural manner. Let the colors absorb for about 25' to 30', mix a little of the liquid protein filler in the lightest bottle of color you have left over, shake it up & do a "color cocktail" 'shampooing' it in all through your hair & let it sit another 10 to 14 minutes. Then rinse rinse rinse with COOL, NOT HOT water, then BIOLAGE BALM straight up from the tube or tub as a conditioner or whatever favorite moisturizing for colored hair conditioner is your numero uno for 3 to 5 minutes more, then rinse again. Towel dry, use a hair pick with wide teeth, preferably plastic or natural wood that isn't splintery, spritz some Infusium 23 for color-treated hair all over & let it dry naturally or hair dryer on cool setting. Find a Paul Mitchell, Aveda, TIGI or Ion color shampoo & conditioner to use every 3rd or 4th wash to keep color & a good light moisturizing spray with SPF is you're out in the sun. If you swim in pools, or have a lot of chlorine in your tap water, the color will fade faster, so use a cap, & do a mayo+olive oil hair mask treatment 1-2x a month. Check out Bare Escentuals natural mineral cosmetics for the summer, they're excellent & you can really play around with looks without adding a lot of chemicals to your skin. Have fun. PS - anyone who like to do their own color can experiment with 3 colors in addition to your own natural color to get an awesome result without spending a fortune. I take notes on mine so I remember which worked better & what the responses were. I go a little lighter in the summer & a little darker in the fall/winter. Going within 2 shades of your natural color will be perfect, but for highlights, use one color that is up to 4 shades lighter for a pop of color.

Got any hair pics, Gr8? I'd like to see what your method looks like. Thanks. Califor.

Digitally challenged for the moment - my friend was happy w/results...even her nit-picky spouse was mucho surprised...I think his comment was "You look like you did when we met 15 years ago...." Not bad.

no I wasn't offended. I think when people hear brow lightening, it just makes them nervous because they think.....blond brows....but that it not the case. It can just be lightened to keep brows from being as dark as they are and bring out a warmer tone to their brows. I am still waiting from the photographer of the picture that I lightened the model's eyebrows. I don't have before images....at least I don't think so. Hey Candace, I am glad that you wrote back. I hope you can post the pic here. I am really intrigued. I barely have any so I doubt that I'd lighten them. Filling them in with color makes me look like Groucho Marks. So I go natural. Thanks. Cal.

Hi Candace, Thanks for that idea. I've been wanting to do this for a while but am a bit scared too. My eyebrows are dark and I think lighting them would give them a new look. I'm going to try this tonight. One question, how long will it last??

if you have long curly hair dont cut it past shoulder length its quite a bit of money for the up keep. u could get layers, or have it blown out and change it to be either lighter or darker. dont go crazy with makeup just s different color gloss. and change of shadow. Getting a few new pieces to wear always helps a makeover. u can go to beautyriot.com and look at hairstyles and makeup if u didnt know where to start

I would just love to see what a good mascara would look like on you. You have beautiful eyes and are just hidden away.

Some brown eyeliner & mascara could make a big difference.

I think everything else looks fine! Maybe just a tinted moisturiser to even your skin tone, you have beautiful skin also so i wouldnt mask it.
