Dont you dare got to an art supply shop to get your brushes!! naughty girl!! good quality make up brushes are so important, they really can make a difference to your make up application, spending a little extra on something that will last is worth it in the long run, although chanel is a good make they dont specialise in brushes so their quality doesnt match their price, i would check out MAC brushes, they are one of the best with out question, my make up artist friend loves them, look for a range that has been designed for make up artists, you get more brush than fancy packaging and brand name for your money!!

i remember hearing about art supply stores having good brushes (obviously), but i want a WHOLE set, the whole nine. would i be able to find things like foundation brushes, concealer, etc.? i'm sure it'd be A LOT cheaper, right?

thanks, trisha!

I keep hearing that the Sonia Kashuk brushes from Target are worth more than what they sell them for. But I'm like you, I want at least a 15 piece set and the most I've found in a Sonia Kashuk set is 7-9 pieces. However, I'm LOVING my NYX brushes, so if you're willing to pay $90 for a set, that may be an answer. I've been trying to find someone who has tried any of BH Cosmetics brushes...? Anyone?

Perhaps I should've paid attention to the dating on this thread before I posted... still trying to figure out how to work this site!

What absolute and utter nonsense about art supply brushes! There are so many brushes but it does boil down to this. There are two types of brushes - synthetic and natural. MAC uses synthetic in the form of taklon fibers, you won't find brushes made of kanekalon fiber. The best brushes are typically made from the best animal hair (fox and seal) but obviously the only way to get that hair is for the animal's death. Other natural animal fiber is goat and boar which are rough and yes which are used in both cosmetic and art supply brushes. To be perfectly honest, there is no difference in the fibers between a good quality painter's brush from the art supply store and a good quality makeup brush from MAC. Yes, you do need to know what you're looking for and what to buy but 90% of my brushes are from the art supply store and they're far better than MAC. Even the BEST makeup artists in Hollywood use items from the art supply store and are not MAC snobs. In fact, if you follow some of the work that makeup artists in the industry use and you'll see more and more of them use less and less MAC overall. MAC is more commercial towards consumers now and not makeup artists, don't get me wrong it's still used but so is everything else if it works great.

I have the Sonia Kushak stipple brush and I love it!

Is that the only one that you have? People are saying good things about the quality and affordability. I'm in desperate need of a new personal set!
