I keep hearing about loose powder eyeshadows, like MAC pigments. Why are these so popular? I have trouble using them, and they seem messier. Any tips on applying them? Do you prefer loose shadows or regular pot ones?

My first loose eyeshadow was my Physician's Formula, in Eye Tech, and is still one of my holy grails. I turn it over with my finger against one side of the tube, get a little on my fingertip, and apply it like that. The tube makes it easy to get just a little bit on my finger, unlike a jar of loose shadow, that my finger dips too deeply in. I've tried other loose shadows, but I don't really use them as much as regular eyeshadows. I've got a few MAC Pigments, but I like the sheerer ones to use as highlighters and shimmer for my face and body.
