Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I think I'll use my $20 gift card for a haircut. I don't know how much a haircut costs... I thihnk $30? So I'll be out $10 + tip, which will probably be $10 or $15. But that's not bad, and is better than buying something I didn't need. Well, I do need some more hand cream, but I could really just use other things instead.... we'll see!
I also vote for haircut! Your trimmed pretty hair will come home with you and make you feel great, and you may be more pumped about certain hair products that you may have forgot to use regularly etc. However, if you need a handcream, you really need to get one.. I have really dry hands all year long cuz I wash my hands a lot (job+personal preference), and they are extremely dry in winter that the fingertips hurt. I use handcream every single night, and can't tell you how it is a necessity to have a good handcream.

I hope no one will mind that I made a thread for the next 10 days so we can start sharing our goals https://www.makeuptalk.com/f/topic/135715-days-31-40-of-the-100-day-no-buy-challenge/

I'm still working on figuring out my goals.  I'm trying to keep it to 7, I think, since I've read that's the largest number of things we can easily keep in our head at once, and I think it would be helpful to actually be able to remember all my goals, unlike this time

Oh God someone please tell me I DO NOT need another palette...
You DO NOT need another palette. It's new and shiny now but you'll use it a few times and then add it to the pile of abandoned and forgotten palettes to obsess over the next new and shiny palette. End the cycle here and try to dupe it with shades you already own! If there's anything you can't dupe, it's probably because you were never attracted to that shade in the first place.

.. hope that helped. ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

It did.  I have closed the sale window of doom, and am distracting myself with other things...

Ok great, two votes for a haircut, so haircut it will be! I just have to make an appointment!

Not at all, I'm really glad you started it, considering it starts tomorrow and I've been wanting to be proactive with my goals for 31-40, considering I totally didn't have any this time.

Also, love the idea of keeping it at or below 7. I'll do this too!

Don't even think about it, sister! This is the last day of this 10-day section. You can't mess up your success!

Also, you really don't need a new palette, no matter what's in it. I have only 3 and even then I hardly ever get use out of them. BE STRONG!!!! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

@@recklesslysober

Good points about the non-dupeable colors!

Yeah I 'only' have 5 (I think) palettes myself. 1 is BN from a trade, so I won't count it, but of the other 4, I actually have one I have not even used (but really! do keep meaning to!   no, seriously, i love it... I just never open it...), one I have gotten moderate use out of but nowhere near pan on ANY of the colors, and two that i have used maybe 20 times total (each, but still). It is pathetic.

But then I see new ones and they are soooo pretty.... I am not even kidding, they are downright seductive.

Here's my progress on my goals:

  • Use at least 3 face masks DONE
  • Finish at least 1 sample in the shower DONE
  • Throw away at least 5 times DONE
  • Something about 3 or 4 empties or something? DONE
  • And probably something about organizing my skincare, which got done, but I still haven't added expiration dates to my spreadsheet. NOT DONE
And here's my progress so far:

  • 19 Empties
  • 2 purchases not allowed per my rules (not sweating this though, just getting back into focusing on only making allowed purchases, or none at all)
  • 1/3 video games purchased
  • 2 books read
  • 18 items thrown away
  • 54 new products tried from stash

No football today?  I thought Facebook was kinda quiet...

I'll put up what I remember of my goals and current progress:

1) Re-clean dining room (it was the first room I got clean, and then it re-cluttered!)  DONE.  .

2) Master Bedroom:  DONE.  I got everything clean, and as much of the nightstand cleaned off as possible.  I love that there's an entire area of the house (Master bed/bath/closet) that is now clean every time I walk into it!  Ah, bliss!

3) Spare Bedroom & Closet: NOT DONE (ABOUT 80% COMPLETE)  I did put some major time in on this yesterday!  There are things in there that honestly need to go down to the garage... and guess what is another major disaster area?  Yup, the garage.  And sorting that hellhole needs to wait for better weather!  I'll probably end up bagging up the extra stuff, throwing it into the Hellmouth, and getting to it at the end of the 100 Days!

4) Study for GRE:  DONE (and ongoing!) - Did not finish the app, but definitely made progress.  I'm most of the way through Intermediate, so my goal for the next 10 days is finish Intermediate and Advanced (i.e. finish the app!).

5) Linen Closet: DONE.  Plus bonus craft project!  Yay!

Progress:  4/5 Complete, and the 5th one mostly done!  Very proud of myself!
Updated progress/completion in my post above!  Yay me, and I do believe I earned another happy WOOT face!

I don't remember all my goals for these 10 days, but i will try my best to update

1. work out every other day - done

2. use masks (2 sheet - not done, 2 non sheet - done)

3. play with makeup looks at least 2 times - did 1 time, which is more than i ever do, so that's a win

4. use up empties - done

5. no buy - successful!

I also cancelled all subs, did not buy new clothes either, and cleaned up wardrobe.

However, I did overspend on restaurant since I am traveling for interview right now. I consider that okay though under the circumstances. I am tempted to go shopping though since I am finally have access to any kind of shopping area now.

I'm doing pretty good. Like I said, I cannot return the rollerball perfume to TJMAxx because they don't accept returns of beauty items. But I'm turning this into a lesson for myself- you can't always return to make up for a stupid purchase. So instead, I'm using it and enjoying it, but I am also going to be selling on Ebay to offset the cost of it so I can remain successful in this no buy.
Are you sure? I just returned a rollerball (well actually spray), travel size perfume to TJ Maxx yesterday with no problem. I had the receipt and they issued me the $5.35 refund on my card. I would suggest trying another TJ Maxx if the one you went to wouldn't let you return it.

So how did I do on days 21-30?

Let's see if I remember my goals, lol...

1) Organize linen closet DONE

2) Eat Clean SUCCESS! It's amazing how well meal planning works!

3) Walk 5 days/week  :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

4) No new subs (I can't remember if this was on there or not, but it's always a temptation, so I'll put it on here now).SUCCESS! I was tempted by one, but held off.

5) Facial mask at least twice SUCCESS!

6) Get clothes/accessories ready the night before so as to make the morning rush out the door much easier. SUCCESS!  I think it was @@greendaisy that mentioned getting outfits ready for a whole week, and that's what I did on Sunday. It was so awesome..I planned out all of my outfits including jewelry and had everything ironed and ready to go.

7) No buy on everything H & B (well, except for what I spent at FCS already - but as I confessed to that already and purged to make up for it...we're pretending it didn't happen, lol). SUCCESS!

I'm not sure if that was exactly what I had originally, but it works for me.

ETA - Just remembered another goal I had written down - take care of my hands by using lotion every time I wash my hands. SUCCESS!  Making an effort to take better care of my hands has paid off! I have been using Julep's glycolic scrub daily and I've been using lotion nearly every time I wash my hands.

In the next 10 days, or maybe the one after, I will probably need to buy a true replacement. It is an overnight lip mask, and while I could probably try to make do with my normal chapstick, I consider this product a true holy grail (especially for winter!). I've been trying to stretch what's left by alternating every other night with chapstick because honestly, I feel weird about buying it, even though it is an allowed replacement!
Oh @ can you post or PM me the name of this overnight lip mask? I have horribly dry chapped lips and if I don't carry chapstick on me at all times, my day is ruined. For some reason, I have to vigorously apply chapstick ever 20-30 minutes. I have over 20 right now. Between 2-3 in every coat, purse, and pants pocket and others scattered throughout my apartment. I will literally catch the bus back to my apartment if I wind up at my office without my chapstick! It's a struggle.

I guess I should be kinda glad the original thread disappeared because I posted about how I had royally messed up on this No Beauty Buy Challenge. Oh well. I'm still determined to not buy any beauty-related purchases, downsize my stash, and get better organized. Here were my goals for the week.

Weekly Rollover Goals

  1. Paint nails. DONE
  2. Use at least 3 hair products every wash day. DONE
  3. Do a chemical peel once or twice a week. DONE
  4. Cook at least once. DONE
  5. Wear at least 3 different scents a week. DONE
  6. Completely use up at least 5 products or samples during the 10-day period. :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
Goals for Days 21-30

  1. Begin phase 1 of organizing closet and getting rid of excess clothes. DONE (donated them to a friend's sorority event and a bagto H&M to get their 15% off coupon).
  2. Begin phase 1 of organizing beauty products. DONE...I ordered the acrylic containers needed to begin organizing. I'm just worried I overspent. Those Muji containers set me back $67!!
  3. Come up with a simple, yet effective skin care regimen to stick with for a month. DONE
  4. Inventory all beauty products in Excel. :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />Halfway done. I inventoried all of my hair products. Can't believe I have over 120 hair products!
  5. Order eyeglasses to update my look. :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />STILL TO DO
So far, I've completed 7/11 goals.
Eventually, I completed 8/11 goals. Not bad, but I'm a bit upset at myself because I could've done better if I wasn't so lazy and also because I broke my No-Buy a couple times. :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Day 30 success! (probably because I've been busy, but yay)

My Day 21-30 Goals:

1. Paint nails 2-3x and toenails 1x  DONE

2. Face mask 2-3x DONE

3. Don't buy any sweet things when I go grocery shopping DONE

4. [i don't remember what this goal was...] I feel no sense of unconscious guilt, so I'm calling this done

5. School stuff: DONE

I think I'm done buying stuff for an exchange (and successfully didn't buy anything for myself!) I also bought a slow charger for my car battery and cooking stuff (pots/bakeware), all which I needed so these are fine. Since I'm studying for USMLE Step 1, I also got two Qbanks (for test prep) (total around $450... and Qbanks are necessary for studying) and the test itself costs $600 (which I already paid for several months ago) -_- /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> And I need to buy plane tickets... so, I should be pretty motivated to not spend money on extraneous things for the next several weeks at least.

Now onwards to Days 31-40 :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

ETA: I finished a full-sized primer during the Days 21-30 period! (something I've been project-panning for 8-9 months) And I also unexpectedly finished a small body lotion (didn't realize how small the Fortune Cookie Soap samples were)

@@tulosai, you DO NOT need another palette!  You've done great with the no-buy so far, keep up your great streak.

@@chibimorph, well done on finishing the full sized primer!

I feel OK about the goals for this period.  I painted nails.  Wore eyeshadow 4 days out of 10 (I was hoping for 5, but the last few days have been crazy).  And I bought the correct razors today, so tomorrow night I commence shaving.  And my project pan lip liner is getting so small!  It is noticeably shorter than my pinky.  Can't wait to start using other lip products.

Day 30.  I managed to redeem myself (in my eyes at least haha) by returning the 3 items I ordered from Sephora.  I went straight to the counter, returned them, got money back on my credit card and left.  So happy that my mall has a gym so I was able to complete 2 tasks in one trip!

Since I only had my one NM MoC purchase and it was less than $9 and was stuff I would have bought BF if my cc had not been cancelled due to fraud I am allowing myself to level up this week!

@@eastofthesun Thank you for your kind words!  I think all the work drama has been bleeding into my personal life.  I am making an effort to leave my work stuff "at the door" so I can get into a more positive mind set! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />  Working out also helps.

And on that note: It is never too late to start!  While I sometimes get bogged down thinking "If I had started a year ago I could have been at goal weight or I should be farther on my journey than I am."

The most important thing is to start!  Just like this no buy.  We all had to start somewhere.  For me I just got so tired of being in the shape I was so that is my motivation.  Do I want to go to the gym 5 days a week?  Honestly no.  But if I don't go I will go right back to that unhealthy me.  And I don't want to be her. I do eat cookies and make poor food choices sometimes but I always ask myself 2 questions: 1.  Is doing this (eating this cheeseburger, not going to the gym etc) going to help me meet my goals 2. Am I ok with that?  Some days I am, happy hour comes up or a special occassion and I don't go work out or eat poor foods.  But honestly all that crazy stuff they say about working out and eating better is true!  When you don't do it, you will feel bad and actually want to do it!  So when you feel ready start your journey!  You can do it!

Ok sorry for my Pro Workout PSA.  I have a serious runner's high right now and it makes me really happy and excited.  Which I know can be annoying.  Sorry  :blush2:

Happy Friday all!  On the next segment!  Can't believe a month is done!

Progress - fantastic!

Used face mask

Did nails

Consulted with credit counselors and analyzed debt and credit score

Paid off my smallest credit card, a retail card, and closed it (department store card - over $100 in Estee Lauder holiday items)

Began working on my second smallest card, also a retail card. This card is maxed out with Sephora purchases -  nothing else! Closed the card, cut it up, and did mail return of four items I charged on the card in December (two sets, one lip gloss, one cleanser). If I can get a refund, it will really help me get going on paying this card off, which I hope to do by April 10. (I did love the things and was sad about letting them go, but I am desperate to get out of debt!)

Thanks for all the kind words, everyone! Unfortunately, I saw a new specialist, and she thinks that there is way too much multi organ system involvement for this to be as easy as just a tumor. I'm not sure where my head is at yet about all this, but since makeup and no buys don't seem to matter right now, I will probably not be on here much anymore. I have very much enjoyed getting to know you guys though.
